Lighthouses

The most well-known of all navigational aids for sailors on open water, the lighthouse, is a common sight along most coastlines both fresh water and salt water. No matter where they are, the purpose of a lighthouse is always the same: to warn passing ships of danger and guide them safely on their way.

This collection of lighthouse pictures was created mainly on the freshwater Great Lakes although there are a few lighthouse pictures here created on saltwater coastline.

Interestingly, there are more lighthouses along Lake Michigan than in any other place. Further, the state of Michigan has more lighthouses than any other state in the union.
