Bugling Elk #13701

The Story

As the sun began to set, this bull elk was calling to his herdmates that had moved into the trees across the pasture. It’s a loud search call, known as the bugle, to find his buddies who had roamed away while grazing.

The picture was taken at the Elk Center, a place to observe these grand creatures in nearby open fields. Many times, elk are there or quite close. The animals are free to roam wherever they choose, and can often be seen in residents’ backyards in the small towns that dot the area.  Totally wild, these large elk go wherever they choose, when they choose.

This particular bull elk had quite a nice rack of large antlers. Being an adult male, he has the typical elk size, nearly as large as an average horse, and much larger than a deer.
