Fireman’s Rainy Day #10643

The Story

A photograph taken out the fireman’s door of an old 1970s EMD GP9 on the Everett Railroad as it proceeds out the short branch line trackage to deliver freight cars to customers. I was very fortunate to be invited along with a camera to shoot the train ride!

It was slow going on the old track, with the max speed set to 15 mph. Being older stick rail track, every joint crossed thumped in the cab as it rocked back and forth on the uneven rail and roadbed.

Fortunately, the rain held off during car switching movements, so the crew didn’t get wet.

This is a railroad revenue move, supplying freight to customers on this old Pennsylvania Railroad branch coming out of Hollidaysburg,  PA. The Everett Railroad also operates some steam locomotives pulling passenger trains of tourists just out for a ride and enjoy the scenery while riding the Polar Express Santa and ice cream train rides, which are very popular kids’ favorite.
