The Story

This broken piano keyboard with badly busted keys was on an abandoned piano left outside in the weather for years. The lid was left open, further exposing it to the weather. Some of the black keys are broken off and scattered. The white keys run in an uneven horizontal smile, covered with the grit of decay.

It was in an unlikely place, too: tossed out into the wild behind a small country truck stop! There were only woods behind it, full of trees and Mother Nature. Beside it was the tail end of a parked tractor-trailer.

This is an older photograph and I went back just to see how the thing had fared over the years. It had been backed into and knocked over, coming apart. There were only a few scattered pieces left laying in the tall growing weeds.

Location: rural Cambria County, Pennsylvania.
