The Story

A light snow highlights the rock strata ledges on the outcrop high in the mountains. Pulpit Rocks are essentially pillars of sandstone resting on softer limestone underneath. 390 million years ago, this was the bottom of an ocean, according to geologists. The road going by these striking rock formations at one time was the main way through the area. Many people knew of and visited Pulpit Rocks back in the early days of settlement. Today, the location is still accessible, but it is far off the main drag.
