The Story

This image is one of my favorite in-between moments that are sometimes captured when photographing people…those times when you catch something good out of the blue. It’s a pure and simple chance with great emotion. I had this woman and her Arabian horse move into the knee-high weeds and was working the pair into one pose after another against the natural background of the farm.

I kept the camera up as they followed my direction when suddenly she and the horse turned to face one another as the tail flipped, and presto: unexpected magic, totally unscripted, and a storyline better than most.

Although this may appear to be a confrontational image, it is not as the horse and human combination was a long and deep bond. The image reflects more of their special connection than anything else, and she was very happy to have this portrait in amongst the posed pictures.
