The Story

This is a close-up of wet rocks that were gathered up on the shores of Lake Michigan. Not surprisingly, there are a variety of shapes and colors throughout all the granite and sandstone shown here.

Although this has the appearance of a natural lay of these smooth stones, the picture is a studio shot created here under studio lighting. Every time before releasing the shutter, the rocks would be lightly sprayed with water and given time for most of it to run off.

Location: a studio shot done in Altoona, Blair County, Pennsylvania.
