The Story
A traditional farming landscape of an 1860’s restored farm with split rail fenced lane or road, and the nearby leaves in Fall colors in sunlight. The reason for this old farm’s restoration is because it’s the site of the Gaine’s Mill Civil War battlefield, just outside of Richmond, Virginia.
In this view on that fateful day in 1862, a nearly sold line of Union artillery lined up down this lane to hold back successive Confederate charges that came from the left. Eventually, the union line was forced to withdraw but it took hours of fighting. This battle was part of a larger one called The Seven Days.
Location: Gaines Mill, American Civil War battlefield very near Richmond in Hanover County, Virginia.
