The Story

It’s a late October afternoon in 1950 as East Broad Top’s #16 pulls an empty coal train south toward another coal pickup in Robertsdale at the end of the line twenty-five miles away. The locomotive is making white smoke on the downgrade, heading into town and a stop for water at the Rockhill Yard outside Orbisonia.

At the same time, a nearly new 1949 Plymouth convertible going under the Runk Road bridge is heading into town too. Although the car’s destination is the same, today’s afternoon errands in town are to pick up the mail at the post office and a stop at the store for eggs and milk.

It’s just another day along the East Broad Top narrow gauge railroad line in Orbisonia…
