The Story

Under a dark moonless night, decorative neon lights across the front of this multiplex theater make for a very colorful fine art abstract photographed at night.

I was in the area to exhibit at an art show, and had the night off after setting up the show booth. I went out for a ride and something to eat, and came across this bit of blazing neon glory.

When I found this multiplex theater fully glowing in the black of night like some just-landed alien spaceship, my broken tripod was of no use to make the needed long exposures for photographing at night. But, being South Carolina, the parking lot had large palm trees growing in the islands. I wrapped myself around their trunks as tightly as possible to get unblurred images and held my breath. While getting strange looks from the theater goers, it worked for about half the pictures, but the rest were too blurry to use. Nevertheless, getting anything under those impromptu conditions could be termed a success! I’m glad to have given it a try, and I hope you enjoy these neon light pictures!

I’ve run prints of this on metallic paper, which really adds to the color and overall effect.
